Orbiting Jupiter by Gary Shmidt, is a story seen through the point of view of Jackson Hurd, as his family takes care of a very young father, Joseph. The twist there is that Joseph has a daughter named Jupiter and he desperately wants to find her. In the end, he does find her, but he is by court, not allowed to see her.
What makes this a great story is the overall theme. The theme of a young man that is finding his daughter and trying to heal his wounds just naturally unfolds. Which brings me to the next criteria, characters. Every character in this story is well written and you can feel as they grow and they learn in this heart breaking novel.
