Brown Girl Dreaming

Written by Jacqueline Woodson, this poetry book is written in poems from her point of view in her experience during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.

This poetry book will appeal to both fans of poetry and fans of history. It can also be used as a source when studying African American History and Culture. The selling point here being that it is both poetry and historical so students can actually perceive the authors experience in these times. Other books by this author include Each Kindness, The Other Side, and Locomotion. All three of these books are written as poetry and all send powerful messages like Each Kindness promotes anti bullying and The Other Side is about segregation.
