Love that Dog

Written by Sharon Creech, this book is the story of Jack who learns a great deal about himself from his poetry. The unique twist in this book is that it is written in free verse poems.

This book will appeal to my students because the way it is written is something I am sure a lot of students haven’t seen before. Students that enjoy poetry will also enjoy it. The selling point here is that it is a novel written like a poem. Other books by this author include Walk Two Moons, Hate that Cat: A Novel, and A Fine, Fine, School. Hate the Cat: A Novel, is also a poetry book very similar to Love that Dog. Walk Two Moons stood out to me as well because it tells the story of two characters, Salamanca and Phoebe, just like Wonderstruck did.
